Executive Board Member & Fingerprinter
I had recently moved to the Hyattsville area and was looking to volunteer in the community in some way. I had narrowed it down to 2 options that I had read about in the Pennysaver. After contacting both places, I was impressed with how the Park Police responded. At the time, the person heading the PPVA was "Gunny". He was extremely friendly and personable and encouraged me to join.I was not familiar with what the Park Police did at all, but certainly did love spending time in Maryland parks, so I thought I would attend the academy. There I learned the Park Police did far more than I thought, and had a very good record in doing it.
After graduating, I have spent most of my time fingerprinting. I was trained by CJIS and find it interesting. This skill also provides me opportunities to interact with the community and children, whom I've worked with for years.
Beyond all this, I have met some wonderful people and developed special friendships.
