Stables, Fingerprint, County Fair, some Park Watch
In 1996 I was walking around the Prince George's County Fair and saw this advertisement for Park Police Volunteers. What caught my attention was the photo of a mounted policeman on the board. I commented that that was what I wanted to do. I was urged to join the PPVA class that was starting the following month, and that was the beginning of a, so far, 10 year span of being a volunteer. At first I only wanted to work with the horses, but gradually became in involved in many aspects of PPVA activities. It has been sometimes hard, sometimes easy, but all the time worthwhile!I am currently Fingerprint coordinator, and was Secretary for 4 1/2 years. I also currently serve on the Uniform board.
The most satisfaction I get out of the PPVA is fingerprinting children...knowing that their parents have their fingerprints should anything happen to them. I also enjoy fingerprinting adults for their various reasons...from jobs to adopting children, and other reasons in between. Helping people provides a satisfaction like no other.
