I joined the Park Police Volunteer Association ("PPVA") program to see if there was any way I could help by giving back to my community and sharing other ideas.When I started out with PPVA I was the chairman of the Park Watch Program patrolling the trails on bike. In May of 2003 I was elected the President of the group with much support from our former President Morey Petrone, who by the way has been a great asset to my presidency. As president I have had the opportunity to share and start new programs that PPVA can better serve the community. We collect used cell phones to help in support with "Domestic Violence Against Women", National Youth Service Day, collect funds for Katrina Relief, Children Wristbands at fairs and events, and being a part of the Combined Federal Campaign ("CFC").
Since being a part of PPVA I have received several awards and honors. Before I list them I want to "Thank" all of the other PPVA Members and Park Police Officers for their support in PPVA and in myself as their president. In 2003 I received the "Volunteer of the Year Award" from M-NCPPC Park Police. In 2004, I received Honorable Mention for 2003 "Civilian of the Year", from the Chief's Association of Prince George's County. In 2004 I received the Commander's Award by the Chief at M-NCPPC Park Police. In July 2004 I was honored in the Prince George's Gazette News for Making a Difference in Prince George's County. In 2005 I received the Governor's Crime Prevention Award put in by M-NCPPC Park Police and in 2005 I received the Volunteer of the Year Award from M-NCPPC Park Police. I guess my biggest honor is that our group was name "Honorable Mention For Making A Difference in 2004" by the Prince George's Gazette. This group could not be as successful as it is without the outstanding volunteers and the M-NCPPC Prince George's Park Police, Maryland.
