PPVA Feature Member of the Month

Phil Kane
PPVA Member Since 2000
Adopt-a-Trail Chairman and Park Watch

My initial introduction to PPVA was with the help of one of my co-worker at The Washington Post, Jim Wallace. Jim approached me with the idea of serving with a community-based organization under the umbrella of the Park Police. Of primary interest was the patrolling of the counties hiker\biker trails. Being additional eyes and ears of the fine officers that serve the Park and Planning Commission.

After my training session in 2000, I became interested in fingerprinting. To be certified in fingerprinting, one must attend and pass a one-day training session given by Criminal Justice Investigation Systems of Maryland. Since my training at CJIS, I have volunteered my time fingerprinting the citizens of Prince George's County once a month, at Park Police Headquarters.

Somewhere along the way I became the chairperson for our adopt-a-trail program. Our adopt-a-trail responsibility covers the entire five miles of the Paint Branch Trail. We meet on either the first or second Saturday of even numbered months. I encourage everyone that may be interested to join and become involved. We are like most other volunteer organizations, the more you're involved, the greater the reward.

Thank you,

Phil Kane
