PPVA Member since 2004
In 2004 I decided to retire from my federal government position after 34 ½ years of service. I started looking around for some type of volunteer activity and was fortunate enough to "stumble" upon the PPVA. Until I attended the Academy, I had no real idea where I could serve. I joined the Park Police Volunteer Association ("PPVA") program to see if there was any way I could help by giving back to my community and sharing other ideas.I was not familiar with what the Park Police did at all, but certainly did love spending time in Maryland parks. Through the academy and becoming involved in the Ride-A- Long Program, I soon learned the Park Police did far more than I thought, and had a very good record in doing it. My passion is photography and videography and I decided to serve as the photographer / videographer for the organization. (no one asked me nor has it been officially approved) I want to share what this organization does through pictures. While my work in these areas is still in its infancy, I hope to make our very special group of dedicated volunteers look very good through pictures. A photographic record that will last long after our service time is over.
I was awarded the Bronze" President's Volunteer Service Award" in December, 2006. I am truly thankful for receiving this award and I plan to continue earning it everyday.
PPVA has something for everyone. PPVA would welcome anyone that finds community service and the wide variety of helpful activities to their liking. I have enjoyed the feeling of camaraderie and the pleasure of doing something that benefits others and would invite anyone who can serve to serve.
Thank you.
